our story

In 2001, our family moved to Singapore to be closer to our grandparents. This meant that every night, without fail, we gathered at their dining table to feast on the dinner that our grandma (we call her "Ama") had spent the better part of her day preparing from her small kitchen. She served us everything from tomato egg stir fry, and sesame oil chicken, to lurou fan and ox tail soup. Her kitchen brought us a taste of home amidst Singapore’s wild culinary melting pot.
Our new concept, Kumi, is an ode to our Ama and the love she shows us through her cooking. Our menu is full of the classics - juicy braised pork wrapped in a perfectly puffy bun, tender and steaming rice bowls, and a little something "not too sweet" to wrap up every meal.
Kumi showed us what Taiwanese food is meant to be - comforting and nourishing but bursting with flavor and texture. It is nostalgic and savory with the perfect pinch of sweetness.
So come on in! We’re excited to go back to our roots and hope you will join us around Kumi’s table too.
